Starting a bakery business can be an incredibly rewarding journey for those with a passion for baking. Yet, it is important to ensure that your business is profitable. With the oven being such an essential piece of equipment in your bakery, considerations towards energy saving will play a key role on the bottom line. Therefore, we provide you five factors to reflect on when selecting a bake oven to help you cut energy costs without compromising the quality of baking.

1. Choose an oven with good insulation and visibility

A well-insulated bake oven with tight-fitting doors and seals can significantly reduce heat loss and lower the energy consumption while enhancing heat-up times. LED lighting in the oven door is not only an energy-efficient light source but by clear visibility of your products inside the oven, you further reduce heat loss from opening the door to check on the quality or process.

2. Consider the size of the oven

The larger the oven, the more energy it uses. If you often experience peak hours and slower times, a Stackit solution with two ovens could be just the right solution. Combining two Invoq Bake 6-grid model, not only saves valuable floor space, but it also gives you 12 trays’ capacity at just 18 kW compared to a 9-grid model which uses the same power consumption. Even more savings are possible by reducing to 9 kW at low-peak hours by using only one of the ovens.

3. Look for energy-efficient features and functionalities

Fast preheating, overnight dehydration programming, closed drain system and lambda sensor surveillance can positively influence your budget. With Invoq ovens, you can benefit from ClimateControl to ensure the best baking performance while controlling the air, heat and humidity levels. In addition, a feature such as BakeTimeCorrection (BTC) will detect and correct user errors, preventing unsellable products and thus saving energy for producing a new batch. For the oven’s automatic cleaning system, you should also look for energy saving modes to reduce water, power and chemical usage.

4. Choose an oven with a world-wide recognised energy efficiency compliance

This will help you compare its energy consumption to other models or brands of ovens, before making your investment.

5. Consider the electric oven option

Electric ovens typically use heating elements made of materials that are more efficient at converting electricity into heat. This means that less energy is lost as waste heat.

Invest wisely to protect and successfully grow your bakery business. Opting for more sustainable solutions can give you significant savings, faster return on investment and help you meet your corporate green goals at the same time.
